Not your traditional honeymoon…
Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius would be your average go to honeymoon destination right? Gorgeous beaches, clear water lapping your toes, the sun on your face and a cocktail in your hand sat next to your new HUSBAND….glorious.
Not us - nope. We decided that as we’d never set foot in South America, we’d book a 3-week trip starting from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil working our way across to Lima, Peru taking in Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia too. Plus it was a GROUP tour, meaning we were sharing our honeymoon with 12 other people!! HA! The lucky devils…
We also decided to book this 6 months after our wedding so that we had something to look forward to after the big day. This meant that we could rest up after getting back from Greece, reflect on our big day and get ready to fully immerse ourselves into this trip rather than be knackered and emotionally drained and potentially not remember much of it. As you may know by now, we love to book over Xmas/New Year to make the most of our work annual leave so mid December, off we went.
What this meant is that over that 3 weeks we saw tonnes!! Travelling by minibus, planes and trains meant that we took in so many sights from iconic landmarks to waterfalls, lakes, mountains, beaches, towns, cities and so much more. We celebrated Christmas in Sucre, Bolivia where the sun shone and they put tinsel on their trees and we drank cocktails at lunchtime because why bloody not! New Years was spent on Lake Titicaca in Peru which was amazing - they put on a fireworks display over the Lake at midnight, although at 12.05 we were in bed as we had to get up early to board the Andean Explorer which took us to Cusco - probably one of THE best train journeys where we enjoyed a number of beers to start the year off right! Plus the views were alright too… ;)
You’ll be pleased to know that after that epic tour we took a flight from Lima to Cancun, Mexico, baby!! This was our downtime in Riviera Maya. Time to be looked after, sit on the beach, all inclusive and get on the beers! We didn’t even leave the hotel…well earned I’d say!
So, what was next …just a small matter of having a baby!
